In March 2016 me and SVRN travelled back to the US. One of our stops was Miami Beach were we stayed for a week in a cozy apartment close to the beach. In addition to a couple of production sessions with a friend of ours, the third installment of the ProducersOnTheRun series was on top of our To-Do list: The Miami Drum Kit.

On this trip our task was to explore the musical aspects of the city and to incorporate into the drum kit. The first thing that caught our eye was, of course, the many clubs and parties. We quickly realized that this kit would not become a classic field-recording based kit, but rather a snapshot of Miami’s vibe.

Among many clubs, we noticed the numerous small cuban shops, such as coffee spots and barbershops. Also in the clubs latin music was played often and this aspect definitely had to be included in the drum kit. We started putting together a selection of the most popular club sounds and fused them with originally latin sounds.

Recording a couple of musicians in bars and on the street as well as random street ambiences “The Miami Drum Kit” captures a part of the city.

Inspired by the new influences, we started producing at day and were hitting the clubs at night. After a fun and exhausting trip to party city The Miami Drum Kit was completed.
